PSGeological Controls of Regional Petroleum Gas Hydrate Occurrence, Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin, Canada* Zhuoheng Chen1 and Kirk G. Osadetz2 Search and Discovery Article # () Posted Febru *Adapted from poster presentation at AAPG Annual Convention and Exhibition, Denver, Colorado, June ,   The Beaufort - Mackenzie Basin lies in the Canadian Arctic and stretches in a broad strip from the Alaskan border in the west to the far reaches of the Beaufort Sea. Exploration in the basin faces several key challenges associated with remote Arctic conditions including high costs, environmental issues, and seasonal access.

"Geology of the Great Basin" is a scientific guide discussing the many unique features and history of the basin. Describing the core fundamentals of geology when approaching this region, Bill Fiero gives readers a complete and comprehensive discussion, complete with color photographs, many maps of many types, diagrams and more. 5. Fluvial deposits represent the preserved record of one of the major nonmarine environ ments. They accumulate in large and small intermontane valleys, in the broad valleys of trunk rivers, in the wedges of alluvial fans flanking areas of uplift, in the outwash plains fronting melting glaciers, and in coastal plains/5(6). @article{osti_, title = {Offshore Beaufort-Mackenzie basin and Amauligak oil discovery}, author = {Sharpe, R.J. and Gurba, G.J. and Sleumer, B.H.G.}, abstractNote = {A variety of complex structural styles and depositional environments host hydrocarbon accumulations in the offshore Beaufort-Mackenzie basin. The Beaufort-Mackenzie basin (), a petroleum exploration frontier region in Arctic Canada, contains a thick (> 14 km) Upper Cretaceous-Cenozoic postrift succession consisting of variably folded and faulted deltaic complexes (Dietrich and Dixon, ).It is underlain in part by a Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous, clastic synrift succession and a mainly Paleozoic, carbonate.

The book has 3 sections (and 17 chapters): the first is an introduction to the Great Basin region and geology in general, the second is the historical geology of the region (PreCambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic), and the third examines the modern economic and cultural significance of the region/5.

The Beaufort-Mackenzie basin lies at the junction of the Canada Basin and the continental margins of Alaska and northern Canada. It is believed to have formed as a result of major displacements of faults separating these crustal elements, in conjuction with strike-slip fault movements along the Canadian Cordillera and sea-floor spreading about.

The Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin underlies the Canadian part of the Beaufort Sea on the southeast margin of Canada Basin (part of the Arctic Ocean) and extends onshore for a short distance into northern Yukon and adjacent Northwest Territories.

It is a Maastrichtian to Recent sedimentary basin that formed on a passive continental margin that has been overprinted by Tertiary Cited by: 1. Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin sediments of Late Jurassic to Tertiary age were shortened in an arcuate trend during Tertiary Brookian orogenesis.

Chapter 16 Geology of the Late Cretaceous to Cenozoic Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin, Canada. The Canadian Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin lies on the continental margin of the Arctic Ocean and contains 14–16km of Late Cretaceous to Recent sediment, the bulk of which is Tertiary in age.

The volume of geological, geophysical and geochemical data collected by the petroleum industry in recent decades is enormous.

The Middle East may be a unique region in the world where the volume of subsurface data and information exceeds that based on surface outcrop. Nine main petroleum provinces containing recoverable resources totalling 61 Bbbl liquids+ Bbbloe of gas are known in the Arctic. The three best known major provinces are: West Siberia–South Kara, Arctic Alaska and Timan–Pechora.

We present a 2-D gravity and magnetic model for the southern Canada Basin margin and Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin integrating the new LSSL data with an existing deep crustal seismic reflection profile. Coal and uranium have been mined on the western and southern flanks of the San Juan Basin, where these deposits exist at or near the surface.
